I’ve been having that notice every time I opened and closed Word 2010 in Windows 7. So what should I do? Of course, F1 for Help. And Microsoft Office Help was as useless as it always is. My lazy self convinced me that I could be just fine with it so I just let the notice pop up again and again.
The second day, I started to get irriated. OK, Google has been my advisor for a long time. So what did I get? A lot of complaints about the “Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec” problem. Some people said that Microsoft Support helped them with the article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307410. They blamed Adobe for creating corrupt templates which lead to problem. But I have never installed Adobe plug-in, so the problem remained unsolved.
Again I found a thread on Proz forum: http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/154817-compile_error_in_hidden_module%3A_autoexec.html. The advice was to delete Normal.dot from the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. I have SDL Trados Studio and Multiterm 2009 SP2 so I thought there must be some hope for me. But still I did not get rid of that error notice (poor me!)
By then I realized that it might be related to templates. Both Microsoft support and Proz forum talked about corrupt templates – and different ones. So I tried again, moving my templates one by one to a different folder, starting Word to check whether the problem persisted. Luckily I didn’t have many templates so it took me only thirty seconds to find the corrupt one. And finally I got rid of that ugly notice! 
CONCLUSION: When you receive the “Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec” notice, just go to your templates folder (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates in which USERNAME is the username you are using) and move any template that is suspected to be corrupt. You will be fine in no time!!!
